So I fail. Once I signed into my account with Palringo.com, everything worked fine. All my contact methods are set up. Liking the app, and it even works on my iPod Touch! Bonus!

Palringo... got it installed, but adding any service (GTalk, MSN, ICQ) just spits back a "Cannot add service" error, and "you are not signed in".

Thoughts?

Right, Fring. Annoying, spaming adware. Not recommended at all.

Fring was the annoying one you were using before.

Generally binaries are distributed just by indicating the processor architecture: Arm, Xscale, OMAP, etc.

Palringo... isn't that the one that drops the self-promotional spam in conversations? Pretty sure I uninstalled that one because of that... unless I'm thinking of a different app.

So that's why they name 'em differently. Makes sense, though 'Touch' is probably more marketable than 'Vogue'. I wasn't aware of the processor differences... that's gotta make it awkward for distributing binaries, no?

"Works on HTC P3050 (CDMA model only)" would be a confusing disclaimer.

And yes, everyone wants to believe that they are special. Because accepting that they aren't would mean they'd have no excuse not to do something about it.

Palringo is my app of choice for a multiprotocol IM client.

The Vogue is the CDMA model number of the HTC Touch, which is more specific than just saying Touch, as there is a GSM model as well -- the Elf (entirely different processor (OMAP vs Arm.)) The model number of the phone for a HTC product will always be different from the branded name, Sprint/Verizon/Telus/etc will always want a custom name, as they want the consumer to think they're special.

Agreed. I've asked a few people to email me anything they have questions about, regarding Linux. I can research things, and write up some content answering the questions they have. Everybody wins. They get answers, I get content, and I may learn something I wouldn't have otherwise.

If you've got ideas for content though, I'd be happy to explore them. ^_^
